'Mystery Science Theatre 3000' is a wonderful concept for a TV show and this subsequent film. Take a guy and put him in an empty film theatre with a couple of wisecracking robots and force him to watch some subpar B-movie while they add their wry comments over the top.

It's the kind of thing that a lot of people do while they're half-watching a bad film with their friends. Up for a grilling this time is hokey sci-fi flick 'This Island Earth' which by the looks of it is an experience that wasn't meant to be taken so seriously in the first place.

There isn't much else going on in the outside narrative to 'Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Movie' that makes it that special. Nor is the choice of film. It just feels like another episode of the show. It's lazy yet warming entertainment that is impossible to dismiss once you get going.
