Royal Opera House: L'Elisir d'Amore

Running Time: 0mins

Laurent Pelly's hilarious staging of Donizetti's most popular comic opera returns to Covent Garden with a star-studded cast. Handsome yet shy Nemorino (Vittorio Grigolo) worships beautiful Adina (Lucy Crowe) from afar. But she's the most sophisticated woman in the village and he's just a poor peasant with nothing to offer but his love. To makes matters worse, he has a rival for her affections in the swaggering form of conceited braggart Sergeant Belcore (Levente Molnar). When larger-than-life travelling quack Dr Dulcamara (Bryn Terfel) comes to town, he sells the young man what he claims to be a love potion. Emboldened by the power of this alleged elixir, Nemorino embarks upon his seduction. Donizetti's warm and sunny rustic comic opera was an immediate hit when it premiered in 1832. Italian conductor and former Jette Parker Young Artist Daniele Rustioni conducts a superb cast in this revival of Laurent Pelly's much-acclaimed staging.
