'Fifty Shades of Grey' fasttracked for summer 2014 release
While 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie news has been quiet since Bret Easton Ellis' high-profile departure as proposed screenwriter last year, Universal Pictures has now stated that it's an "absolute priority" to get the erotic adaptation out in cinemas by summer 2014.
As quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson at first appears to state that the film version of EL James' bestseller will not be rushed but then backtracks to say that it's probably coming a lot sooner than most thought.
“I don't believe that [E.L. James] had any interest in going to a studio where rushing it into production was the vision," says Fogelson. "I don't believe that the second or third film would have benefited from that strategy.
“And I think that there are totally legitimate questions about what this book is as a movie. I will tell you that it is an absolute priority for us. It's conceivable that we could be ready to release it as early as next summer.”
As yet there's still no word on a director or casting choices for the all important role of playboy businessman Mr Grey or his submissive mistress Anastasia Steele. The trilogy of novels has sold over 65 million copies worldwide, so it's not surprising that Universal (which successfully bid for the screen rights) want to get this one out quickly to capitalise on the success.
