Liam Hemsworth engaged to Miley Cyrus

Actor Liam Hemsworth, 22, has popped the question to 19-year-old former Disney star Miley Cyrus after meeting on the set of 2009 film 'The Last Song'.

Hemsworth, star of 'The Hunger Games' and 'The Expendables 2' apparently took a few months to get her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, onto his side.

The country/western singer told HollywoodLife: "All I ever hoped for as a daddy was to see my kids reach their dreams. To find happiness, peace of mind, and someday know true love"

Miley Cyrus took to Twitter to reveal her joy: "Thank you for all the love today. I'm happy to share this news with you all. I feel like all my dreams are coming true."

The 3.5 carat diamond engagement ring has also been making the headlines. Its designer Neil Lane has revealed its genesis: "It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it's unique and in its original form.

"At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it's fascinating to look at because it hasn't been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic."
