Michael Moore and Harvey Weinstein settle 'Fahrenheit 9/11' lawsuit
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore has settled his multi-million dollar lawsuit against studio mogul Harvey (and Bob) Weinstein regarding allegedly unpaid profits from Moore's hit film 'Fahrenheit 9/11'.
While the Los Angeles Superior Court revealed that the court documents were filed and the case is settled, the terms have not been disclosed. Instead, the exact details of the settlement will be postponed from being made public until May 2012.
Moore launched his suit last February claiming that the Weinstein brothers and Fellowship Adventure Group held back profits from his documentary. Moore was led to believe that he would split profits 50/50 but at least "$2.7m in profits were diverted to avoid payment".
The documentary officially grossed $222m worldwide - unprecedented for the genre. Moore went on to audit the film himself and “discovered substantial irregularities in the accounting” that resulted in a “gross underpayment to [Moore],” the lawsuit alleged.
At the time, Weinstein lawyer Bert Fields dismissed the claims, saying "Mr. Moore has received a huge amount of money from this film and we believe he is overreaching. He should be ashamed of himself."
