New 'Blade Runner' producer denies Harrison Ford return rumours

The brief rumours which circulated that Harrison Ford, the original star of Ridley Scott's sci-fi masterpiece 'Blade Runner', would return for the new installment have been flatly denied by producer Andrew Kosove.

Kosove stated that the casting stages were way off: "It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner.

"To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment."

Ford himself has been less than eager for a return, saying last year that "he wouldn’t feel bad if I were not invited to the party because I would understand they would want fresh blood to be spilled."

Star Ford and director Ridley Scott famously clashed on set about the narrative implications of Ford's character Rick Deckard - the "blade runner"/replicant hunter of the title. The film is ambiguous as to whether or not Deckard himself is a replicant.

Scott is busy reviving another groundbreaking sci-fi he made. His new take on his own 'Alien', called 'Prometheus' (trailer HERE), has been generating huge buzz and Kosove sees it as a good indicator to how the new 'Blade Runner' may shape up.

"What Ridley does in Prometheus is a good template for what we’re trying to do,” says Kosove. “He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie."

Originally released to mixed critical and commercial reception in 1982, 'Blade Runner' has since become a true classic of the sci-fi genre. Ridley Scott tinkered with the film (as he does with most), releasing both a Director's Cut and a Final Cut which both met with far better reviews.
