Nicolas Cage on board and Clint Eastwood plus Harrison Ford in talks for 'The Expendables 3'

'The Expendables 3' doesn't even have a script and it's already got big names attached. In addition to the current returning cast, Nicolas Cage is officially signed on and Clint Eastwood as well as Harrison Ford are in talks for roles too.

This is all down to ambitious producer Avi Lerner who also revealed that he wants Wesley Snipes to return once he's done serving his three year prison term for income tax evasion.

Discussing the state of the casting process with Total Film, Lerner revealed: "We've approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we've got a character in mind for him. We're talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I'll give you one more name, we've got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]."

"And we're going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won't be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]."

Lerner could be aiming just a little too high with Eastwood and Ford. Eastwood very, very rarely acts if he's not directing (the forthcoming baseball drama 'Trouble With the Curve' is a rare exception) and both he and Ford usually demand top billing and avoid ensemble projects.

Back in 2010, 'The Expendables' was a surprise hit. Frontlined by a host of 80s action stars, the film went on to gross over a quarter of a billion dollars. 'The Expendables 2' then arrived and added "the muscles from Brussels" himself Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris into the mix.

Until all the above is confirmed and more aged heroes sign on the dotted line, you'll have to make do re-watching the brilliant trailer for 'The Expendables 2' HERE. The part when Schwarzenegger chomps on a cigar and declares "I'm back!" is cinematic gold.
