'Prometheus' scribe Damon Lindelof to rewrite troubled 'World War Z'

Brad Pitt's big screen version of Max Brooks' zombie novel 'World War Z' has been through development hell and it's not getting any better - a rewrite has been ordered despite the film already wrapping filming.

Damon Lindelof, co-creator of 'Lost' and screenwriter behind Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus', has been drafted in for extensive rewrites which will then lead to reshoots.

Paramount have given up on a Christmas 2012 release and possible awards season entry to make way for 6-7 weeks worth of reshoots.

Industry rumours state that the problem with Marc Foster's first cut of 'The Kingdom' writer Matthew Michael Carnahan's script was its muddled third act that didn't test well.

The film sees Brad Pitt playing a UN rep who scours the globe attempting to stop a zombie pandemic. The source material was apparently going to be stretched into a potential trilogy but only if the first film delivered.

Expect a late spring/early summer release for this one.
