Universal announce 'Child's Play' sequel 'Curse of Chucky'

The killer doll franchise 'Child's Play' is coming out to play once again, with studio Universal announcing that 'Curse of Chucky' is indeed in the works.

The original 'Child's Play' arrived back in 1988 and revolved around serial killer Charles "Chucky" Ray aka the Lakeshore Strangler. Before getting shot, Chucky managers to transfer his soul in a child's doll resulting in more (albeit smaller scale) havoc.

Brad Dourif played the human killer and voiced the doll for the four following films in the franchise.

Created by Don Mancini, the franchise started as straight out horror for three films but took an interesting twist by injecting a heady dose of black comedy for Ronny Yu's 1998 cult classic 'Bride of Chucky' and 2004's increasingly off-the-wall 'Seed of Chucky' (which Mancini himself directed).

'Curse of Chucky' is destined for a straight-to-DVD release and Mancini is returning to the director's chair.

Production begins this September in Canada.
