'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' release pushed back and reshoots scheduled
In mid-May it was revealed that Paramount was sacrificing a lucrative summer release slot (and a bundle in Superbowl advertising), pushing 'G.I. Joe 2' back to next year. And now it's been revealed that they're using the time to get in some reshoots.
The first 'G.I.' film underperformed for Paramount, taking in a lukewarm $300m (which when you consider that the budget and marketing went well over $200m isn't as high as it sounds). Determined to see the franchise through, Paramount added some heavy hitters to the cast in the form of Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis.
IndieWire have speculated that Channing Tatum's role in the second film was so small, Paramount became determined to see more of him after '21 Jump Street' did so well. The box office underperformances of 'Battleship' and 'John Carter' must also be getting the suits in a twist.
While they're at it, 'G.I. Joe 2' will be rendered in 3D in post-production. So expect a much bigger and hopefully better action movie next year. Until then, we've got the old trailer HERE.
Next up for Channing Tatum's rapid rise to the top is stripper drama 'Magic Mike'. Trailer for that HERE.
