Oscar winner Karl Malden has died at his home in Brentwood, California, three years shy of his 100th birthday. The Streets of San Francisco star was born in Chicago in 1912 and raised in Gary, Indiana -- ironically the birthplace of Michael Jackson, who died last week.A former steelworker and teacher, Malden studied acting at the Goodman Theater Dramatic School in Chicago and chose to take his talents to New York, where he became involved with the fabled Group Theater. He made his stage debut in 1937 and struck up a theatrical partnership with legendary director Elia Kazan, who cast Malden in a host of successful Broadway shows. After serving in World War Two, the actor landed his big movie break in 1940's They Knew What They Wanted, and he quickly became an in-demand film star, winning an Oscar for his performance as Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951. He also landed roles in classics like On the Waterfront and Baby Doll. Malden became a household name when he teamed up with Michael Douglas in TV cop drama The Streets of San Francisco in the early 1970s. He also became the pitchman for American Express -- a position he held for 21 years. In 1988, he was elected President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences -- a title he held for five years. Malden's memoir is called When Do I Start?: A Memoir. As well as his Best Supporting Actor Oscar win in 1951, Malden also claimed an Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy in 1985 for the TV series Fatal Vision. Malden was honored with life achievement awards at the Temecula Valley International Film Festival in 1998 and the Screen Actors Guild Awards of 2004. His star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame can be found at 6231 Hollywood Boulevard. |

Lindsay Lohan received a present she won't forget -- she was paid a staggering $70,000 to host her own birthday bash. The Mean Girls star turns 23 on Thursday, and she made sure the day would be a profitable one by agreeing to be paid to party at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The venue handed over $70,000 just for the actress to enjoy herself at the pool-side event last Saturday, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix. As part of the deal, Lohan was expected to pose for snappers, and she did it in style -- swapping her bathing costume five times. But it seems the star couldn't persuade her celebrity pals to join in the money-spinning mission -- her on/off girlfriend Samantha Ronson was absent from the festivities. |

Ryan O'Neal paid tribute to his beloved partner Farrah Fawcett in an emotionally 'stirring' funeral service for the Charlie's Angels star. The actress' son Redmond also gave a moving reading during the ceremony at Los Angeles' Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Tuesday afternoon. The 24-year-old and his father were pallbearers who held the star's casket aloft as it was carried into the Roman Catholic church ahead of the service. Redmond O'Neal -- who was granted a three-hour release from jail, where he's serving time on drug charges -- gave the first speech of the ceremony in memory of his mother. Ryan O'Neal sported a gold band on his wedding finger, despite never marrying Fawcett, as he read a verse from the Bible shortly after his son's tribute. The star's longtime friend Alana Stewart gave a self-prepared eulogy about Fawcett, as did her doctor Lawrence Piro. Fawcett's Charlie's Angels co-stars Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith were also at the ceremony to pay their last respects to the actress, who lost her battle with anal cancer last week at age 62. The church and the coffin were decorated with orange and yellow flowers -- the actress' favorite colors -- and the funeral program featured a photograph of a smiling Fawcett in her hey-day, with a full head of her trademark curly hair and wearing a silk and sequined dress. Around 500 people were at the service, according to entertainment journalist Eliot Tiegel, who attended with his wife, Bonnie. He says, 'It was one of the most musical funerals I've ever been to, and that's what happens when you go to a show-business funeral. Overall, it was very stirring.' The intimate service lasted for an hour and the street outside the church was flanked with fans wanting to pay their last respects to Fawcett. As the star's family and friends left the church after the funeral, Fawcett's 90-year-old father James had to be helped to a waiting limousine as he struggled to contain his grief. |
Fox Finds Romance With LaBeouf? | WENN.com

Megan Fox has sparked rumors that she's moved on from ex-fiancé Brian Austin Green and into the arms of Transformers co-star Shia LaBeouf. The 23-year-old actress ended her engagement to Green, 35, earlier this year. The couple subsequently tried to work through their problems, but Fox has now confirmed that the romance is officially over. She already appears to have moved on from the split and chosen a new suitor in 23-year-old LaBeouf -- they were spotted dining together in New York. According to the New York Daily News, the pair turned heads as they sat side by side during a dinner with 10 friends on Thursday, days after attending a West Hollywood party together. A source says, “They definitely seemed into each other... Shia couldn’t keep his eyes off of Megan. He literally watched her like a hawk all night.” The reports follow LaBeouf's own confession just last week that he feels a real chemistry with his sexy co-star, telling reporters, 'I'm a 23-year-old red-blooded male, so sure, there's a lot of real there. She's a beautiful woman.' |
Cooper Urges Press To Drop Aniston Rumors | WENN.com

|
Actor Bradley Cooper has urged the media to stop circulating rumors that he is dating Jennifer Aniston -- because they really are 'just friends.' The pair was linked romantically after they were spotted enjoying a meal at romantic New York Italian restaurant Il Cantinori last week -- with many Internet gossips speculating that they have been secretly dating for several months. Cooper, who starred alongside Aniston in recent movie He's Just Not That Into You, subsequently denied the stories -- but rumors of a relationship refused to go away. In a press conference in Paris on Friday the actor once again addressed the reports -- insisting they are not true. He says, 'She's a friend of mine. Simply, simply, just a friend. In America, it’s not like it is here. She's someone who is super, super known. Famous. If someone says 'hello' to her, it's given that he's fallen in love with her. So, no. No. She's a very, very interesting woman, but she's simply a friend. 'We made a film together but we didn't have any scenes together. I got hired in at the beginning of the casting, and my part was solely with Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Connelly. Which isn't bad at all.' |

Kodak Launches Hunt for Megan Fox's 'Rose Boy' | WENN.com

A young love-struck rose bearer who was snubbed by Megan Fox at the London premiere of the Transformers sequel is a wanted teenager -- Kodak bosses want to give him $5,000 and make his dream of meeting the actress come true. Officials at the photo company are offering a reward to anyone who can identify the kid, dubbed 'Rose boy,' who tried in vain to hand a yellow flower to Fox -- and was photographed by agencies all over the world. Kodak bosses have offered to fly the kid and his family to Hollywood, where he'll meet the pinup. Leslie Dance, Vice President of Kodak's Worldwide Brand Marketing & Communications, tells PerezHilton.com, 'It's amazing how just a photograph can connect and change the lives of two complete strangers. If this photo is any indication, this boy was really hoping to meet Megan Fox and give her that rose, and we'd love to help make his fantastical wish come true.' Fox has already issued a heartfelt apology to the unknown boy, claiming she was blinded by paparazzi flashbulbs at the London screening of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen earlier this month -- and she didn't see him. She told Collider.com, 'I feel so sad for him. That's so terrible. That kills me. There were, like, 80 million people everywhere. It's dark, all I see are flashes. Everyone's yelling different things... and I didn't know that was happening. 'If you know his name, I will send him a personal apology. I'm horrified. I would never do that. I'm sorry, sweet boy. I would never do that to you, and I would gladly accept your rose if I see you again.' |

Farrah Fawcett's family and friends are bracing for the worst as the actress clings to life after a three-year battle with anal cancer. The former Charlie's Angels pin-up was re-admitted to a hospital in California earlier this week, and reports suggest that a priest was summoned to the actress' bedside in intensive care on Wednesday to read the devout Catholic her last rites. And TV news show Extra has learned her 90-year-old father, James, is racing to his daughter's side, after being told she hasn't got long to live. The 62-year-old actress' partner, Ryan O'Neal, has been trying to secure a temporary jail release for the couple's son Redmond -- who is serving time in a rehab jail on drugs charges -- so he can join family and friends at his mother's bedside. In April, Fawcett was hospitalized for internal bleeding not directly related to her ongoing cancer battle. She recently learned the disease had spread to her liver and underwent chemotherapy. |
